Description
Allegro barbaro, Sz. 49 (also BB 63), composed in 1911, is one of Béla Bartók's most famous piano pieces for solo piano. The composition is typical of Bartók's style. The work combines Hungarian and Romanian scales; Hungarian peasant music is based on the pentatonic scale, while Romanian music is mostly chromatic. It was first published in 1918, and premiered in 1921 in Budapest by the composer.
